Save Our Bays was originally set up in February 2024 in response to several industrial scale seaweed farm applications in the South West of the UK.
As a result of our campaign, other coastal communities got in touch, and we began to support their struggles against industrial development.
Since then, other opportunities for the protection of Cornwall's fragile marine habitats have surfaced.
There are many ways to get involved with Save Our Bays, from making a donation to volunteering your time. Every little bit helps us make a difference!

We must stress that ourselves, and the communities we have been working alongside, are not against seaweed farming at all. We support the expansion of aquaculture projects in general, for the sake of the planet, and for the health and wellbeing of its people.
However, we do oppose the SIX industrial-sized farm development proposals which have recently emerged around the South West. Not only were the local communities and stakeholders not consulted at all, these farms would significantly impact the seabed in these areas, and pose a significant threat to the marine mammals, seabirds, crustaceans and fish that rely on these delicately balanced environments.
This is why SaveOurBays is now pushing to protect our nearshore waters.
There are now many Voluntary Marine Conservation Areas around the coast of the UK. They are community led organisations, working to protect marine wildlife and support small boat fisheries and other local businesses, to raise awareness of pressures on marine ecosystems, and to engage communities and schools in taking an active role in conservation efforts.
Some current VMCAs are also taking part in habitat recovery projects.
"Marine ecosystems face a range of increasingly stark threats each cumulatively contributing to global biodiversity loss that rivals the extent of past mass extinction events".
There are incredible projects underway around the country, successfully contributing to the recovery of these threatened marine ecosystems, and to the livelihoods of local small boat fisheries, including in Arran, Lyme Bay and the Sussex coast. We are a charity dedicated to helping those in need. Our mission is to provide support and resources to individuals and families facing difficult challenges. Thank you for visiting our website and learning more about our organization.

Cleaner Seas Project works with coastal communities to achieve the highest water quality and cleanest beaches possible. They are doing this by involving everyone; businesses, farmers, householders, and by looking at the the bigger global picture and addressing it on a local level with the people who can make a change.
